Devblog #47


I had a very poor night's sleep when I wrote this devblog on Monday, so bear with me, while you read it. We are still moving forward with our beautification of the early game, as planned. Last week we updated the sprites for Eric, who only had two expressions and only a single pose for the longest time. For a character that possibly has as much screen time as the main cast of the girls - it was really strange. Especially since he is the first character that the player encounters during their playthrough.

As I reworked the introductory events for two of the girls for each house, and saw Eric's sprite next to those of the girls', it became immediately apparent, how outdated his sprite really was, so we decided that a slight make-over was overdue. Thankfully, it is also a low cost high reward case.

We are also continuing with our updates to the players' rooms. The placeholder ones all had the same layout and by the most part only differed from each other by their color scheme. The final versions will have much more individuality, to both bring variety to different playthroughts and give a little bit more character to the different Houses.

For example, Dunagall's rooms will be a little less spacious than the Talamhdan's ones, and will sport double-deck beds.

Poor Eric 🤧

Just felt a strong surge of nostalgia when you mentioned Dunagall would be getting double-decker bunks standard, because you more or less described my bedroom as a little brat. Bunk bed with me up top and my little brother down below in a room with blue and silver colors all around, almost feel like I'm back there playing on my Gameboy Color under the sheets, or making miniature lightning storms via static on my blankets. Makes it feel oddly right that they're my preferred house, with Talamhdan being a close second.


Glad to hear Eric's getting a glowup too, while he still looked good his design was a bit basic compared to how Shady 2 improved the girls' sprites like you said. Will be interesting to see how the both of you spruce him up, especially during the ritual scene and the girls' intros. But for now I guess I'll stop rambling, pleasure to see what the both of you have been working on again, looking forward to the next devlog or art showcase.
