Shady Character Two here.
If you were born in a world where wizards are casting magic with wands, what would your wand look like?
Of course, it would be a very personal item that you choose, so in general it would suit your personality. A wand can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. They are usually made of wood with some insert elements of metal or stones, but really can be made of anything, as it is up to its creator. Of course, it will also depend on how expensive of a wand you can afford.
Students wands are usually cheaper, simpler and made of wood - you can see the more classic and elegant wands Lily and Elizabeth have, more sleek and modern wands of Ciara and Aisling, and one more strict looking Gwen's wand.
Some teachers have more elaborate wands, they are usually more sturdy and decorative - thicker or with metals parts, with more ornate designs and gems.
The very first thought we had after discussing the magic medium of different countries was "how do they carry it"? You can't put it in the pocket and making every wand owner having a special holster seemed a bit too much, in the end people prefer easier solutions for everything.
When constructing school uniforms, I introduced the straps with buckles to the girls' skirts. The idea originally came from similar straps you can find on Scottish kilts. Originally, I added them just for design purposes, but looking at them, we realized they suit just great for holding a wand in a place from which you can always draw it comfortably. But won't the wand get in the way? In the end, it's an long rod, 25 cm at least, sitting with it seems problematic. Also, we're talking about wizards, can't they make a more convenient way of carrying a wand?
And thus, our uniform straps became universal, as we introduced them as a common item for all modern wizard clothes. Right now, carrying your wand while only showing the handle is the preferred way according to the etiquette on the Isles.
Of course, there are still other ways to carry your wand however you please - you can see Prof.Hayes just sticking it into her belt or Prof.Bolg having a special wand holster.
If you played UYS a few times, you already saw most of the wands that are present in the game, we have a few more to introduce, so I won't spoil them for now. Tell me, if you have a favourite!
See you all in the next one!

Hadn't given it much thought before now to be honest Shady 2, each design just seemed to fit the characters well enough that I didn't stop to consider just how important an aspect of the game world it is. Love seeing the decisions that shaped each of the wand's designs, from temperament to standing, worldview and country origin, everything has some small impact on where and how they are presented.
I suppose if anything I enjoy Gwen's wand a bit more than some of the others (shocking I know, given my prior admitted preference for Elizabeth and Lily) due to its simple no-nonsense design, utility above all else. It actually reminds me of the wand that Pottermore assigned me when I took the tests on-site a fair few years ago, elder wood with a phoenix feather core, 10.75 inches and unyielding in its flexibility. Basically reflects how much of a stubborn and frank person I tend to be I suppose.

Pleasure seeing your thought process again Shady 2, shows that there's a hell of a lot more to making a game of this caliber visually than just being able to draw a pretty face. Looking forward to the next blog already, tell Shady 1 I said hey.
