Devblog #30
I have made three dozen of these already. Crazy! Here’s to me keeping it up.
But let’s get to the meatier parts. That’s what you all are here for, right? I’d say that the previous week was moderately productive for me. I am more or less keeping up with my plan of doing one girl and one non-girl event per week. Though I am leaning to come short more often than not. On the other hand, most events I am doing right now are generally longer than the ones we had at the beginning of the game. Some events being more than twice as long as the first few encounters with the girls (even after I did some reworks and made those a bit more robust). So, I would say I am more or less satisfied with my progress. Two out of five planned Katelyn’s events are completed, and I have also written Aisling’s fifth event. We are getting there.
I also keep coming back to the prefects’ baths, trying to rework their logic again and again. The previous rework made it much more dependent on your Luck stats, but I definitely overdid it. Most of the bad outcomes became almost inaccessible, and the good ones were encountered too often, so it was really difficult to balance them, except gating them behind really high checks. Also, with even moderately high Luck stats, baths became much more efficient than the normal Rest activity, making it almost redundant. With the current rework, Luck both has a deeper impact on the baths and at the same time allows you to keep the variety they provide. I think this is a more or less final version of the baths’ mechanic.
Another thing I noticed was that one of our faculty workers was extremely easy to miss. Even though Groundskeeper Lardbee was featured in two events and mentioned in two more, all of those were optional or House-specific, so many of you might’ve never seen or heard of him. Well, that will be somewhat remedied soon, as I’m adding another job where you can help Lardbee manage the school grounds and nearby woods and mountains. This will be my next priority, which will hopefully put his new sprite to good use.

Damn, glad I checked in today, lotta good stuff mentioned here. Will be interesting to see the new girls and events, found myself actually liking Aisling a decent bit when I tried pursuing her last patch, coarse but with a good heart beneath. Also glad to see progress on Hagrid's multiversal cousin, love his design. Were the baths supposed to have random events from the start, or was the random factor always just the stamina recovery? Suppose I never noticed if so, but given the reasons listed I suppose that isn't too surprising. Damn fine work Shady 1 & 2, looking forward to the update.
The baths were always meant to have random events. There are only a couple of them in at the moment though, and I will definitely need to expand on those soon. It won't be anything too major, as at the end of the day, it is first and foremost - stamina recovery option. It will have a few interesting and pretty unique events though.
Since the events seem to closely mirror that of Goblet of Fire theme wise, guess I started thinking about the golden dragon egg and Myrtle again. Given the sheer amount of wheels and greeblies described on the back wall the sky's the limit. Hell, I guess one thing that could involve the community with development might be the selection of one of the random events via a Discord or Patreon poll. Thanks for the reply, always glad to talk with the two of you.
That's actually a pretty nice idea with the community random event. I have not thought about that :O I need to!
Glad to have helped in a small fashion, seen other devs do something similar on occasion, figured it'd be an easy way to vet out any ideas you might have, fresh perspectives and whatnot.
