Friday Devblog #12

It is time for another devblog already. To be honest, I a have been is a bit of a writers slump the last couple of weeks, so the progress on the writing was slower than I hoped it would be. I was planning on adding another event that would introduce a "rival" character that would give players additional stimuli to train appeal, and kind of show off its bonuses in the process. But after several hours of trying, I just could not make the event work the way I wanted it too. Making the "rival" and asshole, defeated the purpose of having player want to be like him, but making him nice-ish gave no motivation to "beat" him. Also, how can you quantify "being charming" for a full-blown competition? I could not figure all of this out. So this part of the script had to be scrapped for now.

I did manage to write another one of Gwen's events though, which is less than I wanted, but is definitive progress nonetheless. Only the last (of this batch) event for Elizabeth and Ciara remain now.

But that doesn't mean that I was idling aside from that. I did use this time to dive into the code and testing a bit more. It seems that no matter how much I test, there are always more bugs just around the corner. I did hope that we would get a flood of testers after the release, but actually a bit of the opposite did happen, which means that I do need to pick up the slack. Because it would be dumb to expect the players to want to test a game that gets progressively more buggy.

The work continues in the art department too. Shady Character Two turned her attention to the character sprites again. We still have a lot of secondary characters whose empty spaces need to be filled with artworks. We decided to go with the most important ones, even though the do appear later than some teachers or students who don't have sprites yet. Thorgny and Bassant, your rivals in the Cup of Cathal, had their concept art done internally a long time ago, but we just did not have the time to draw them properly. Now that we did, not all of them wanted to cooperate. Thorgny was pretty straightforward, but Bassant needed her sprite to be redesigned a bit.
